Every month, I teach my highly acclaimed workshop Career Shift: Find Work You Love at General Assembly in downtown San Francisco.

I’ve taught it now 40+ times for 4 years to 600+ students.

Realizing that I’ve impacted hundreds of people through this class means a lot!

I often receive emails, notes, and words from my students about the transformational impact the exercises we do in the class have had on their career trajectory.

Let’s do the math.

In days:

• 5 days out of 7 days per week
• 240 days out of 365 days/year (if you take 4 weeks of vacation/year; this is often less in North America)
• 2,400 days out of  3,650 days for 10 years

In hours:

• 8 hours/day (minimum; it may be even more)
• 56 hours per week
• 1,920 hours per year
• 19,200 hours for 10 years.

Wow.

Imagine if you hate your work, or feel bored and unmotivated….

This is the TIME you spent unhappy and unfulfilled in your life.

It’s like being married to someone you hate, day after day, year after year.

How would that feel?

Would you stay married to someone you hate for 10, 20, 30 years?

Would you?

Probably not.

Why does work should be any different?

Why should you waste your life in work you hate for years and even decades?

Ponder that.

It does not have to be that way.

What would it be like to do work you ABSOLUTELY love? 

The work
….you LOVE so much that it doesn’t feel like work
…you are so PASSIONATE about that you are EXCITED to talk about it
….where you use ALL of your talents to contribute to the world in a way that matters to you
… where you can be FULLY yourself, without leaving a part of you behind
….that gets you so PUMPED UP that you have to pinch yourself to make sure it’s true

Impossible you may say?

No. it’s not.

This is what my work feels like and this is what I want for you.

The other day, as I was in the middle of a coaching session helping one of my clients figure out her dream work, I had one of these “pinch moments.”

“OMG. Is that possible that I’m being paid to do what I LOVE the most in the world??!! The ONE thing that makes me the happiest. The thing I’ve dreamed of doing for the past 10 years. Helping people uncover their talents, passions, and purpose so that they can do the work they love the most.”

Yes. This is happening. Right now. This is a REALITY.

It is why I know it’s POSSIBLE.

It’s what I want for YOU. Doing work that makes you come alive. Work where you use your talents to contribute in a way that matters to YOU.

I want that for you whether you are unhappy in your current career or you like you work, but you could LOVE it even more.

The first question to ask yourself is:

Imagine you could do THE work that brings you the MOST joy, how would that look like?

See what comes up for you, whatever that may be, just listen, and journal about it. And for now, forget about any constraints; Imagine you have unlimited resources and you can do what you LOVE the most, whatever that may be. How would that look like?
